1994

The Telegraph Hill Society, concerned about the gradual deterioration of the park, commences work on a restoration plan. Two public meetings held over the course of the next three years from funds raised by the Society to develop a masterplan for parks restoration.   The Metropolitan Parks and Gardens Association visit the site to advise on fund raising.

1995

The Telegraph Hill Society plans Holm Oak in Lower Park to commemorate the Parks’ centenary.

1996

With escalating ideas and costings for the works required, the Society approaches Lewisham Council with a view to a formal Lottery bid.   Matters take some time to move forward.

1998

Parks Users Group formed. 

1999

Lewisham Council approves seed-corn funding for bid and further consultations with residents take place

2000/1

First stage Lottery bid formulated and submitted to  the Heritage Lottery Fund.  Fund approves grant to provide money to appoint consultants and carry out detailed survey and design work.

2002

Second stage lottery bid finalised and submitted.

2003

Lottery Heritage bid approved and Lewisham funding received totalling £1.4million.

2004

February:  restoration works start on site. 
Upper Park closed to February to June; Lower Park June to November 2004.
Full time ecology warden/park ranger appointed.

2004

November.  Targeted completion date for works. Grand re-opening ceremony to be announced.
